Acid Floor Stain

floor stain

This concrete floor was covered with linoleum. Once the linoleum and the glue was removed, the floor was acid etched with an etching solution. Then an 1/8 overlay was spread over the floor with a squeegee. When the overlay material began to set up and get sticky, a texture was created by simply making swirling motions with a trowell. The next day, the floor was lightly sanded just to knock down some of the overtextured areas and the lines were scored with a small angle grinder. A tan acid floor stain was applied which really highlights the texturing. The stain was diluted to 1 part stain/8 parts water. Then the floor was neutralized with baking soda and water. To add a little more color, a brick red acrylic stain diluted with half water was applied using the ragging technique. After drying, a coat of water based sealer followed by a coat of urethane sealer was applied.
