This is a decorative basement floor overlay, the perfect flooring choice for a basement that is prone to flooding. Water will not hurt this durable, seamless flooring.
The overlay itself was applied with some light texturing. The pattern was scored using a 4 inch angle grinder with a masonry abrasive blade. It was then stained using purple and gray acrylic stains that were applied heavily with paint brushes.
When applied heavily, you can achieve a mottling effect with acrylic stains similar to that of acid staining. This is expecially true on textured floors. Unlike paint, the pigments in concrete stain remain suspended in a solution as it dries. So the stain gathers in low spots causing them to be more intense in color.
The last step in the project was two coats of high shine urethane sealer. Not only does it protect the floor, but it really makes the colors in the stain "pop".
With basement floor overlays, your options for how you want it to look are endless.
