Concrete Driveway Maintenance

It is highly recommended that concrete driveway finishing be done by someone with experience. It’s a skilled trade and is not as easy as it looks. There is only a small window of time to work the surface of concrete. Once it’s hard, it’s too late to go back and fix it. If you don’t know what you’re doing, there’s a good chance you will end up with a costly mess.

The only concrete driveway maintenance necessary is keeping it coated with concrete sealer, whether it be clear or colored sealer. This protects it from the weather and harsh chemicals such as road salt and provides a wear coat for vehicle traffic. Sealer will also help prevent stains from oil, rust, mold, etc.

A driveway should be resealed periodically, usually once a year. The best time is in the fall for maximum protection against the winter elements and the road salt brought back by your vehicles. Before sealing, the driveway needs to be thoroughly cleaned with water and allowed to dry completely. See concrete sealers for more information on sealing a driveway.
