Concrete Overlay Stenciling

Concrete overlay stenciling is used to incorporate a pattern into the overlay. There are stencils available just for this purpose, or you can use tape to create your own pattern such as the one used in this project. We used 1/4 inch tape to make an ashlar pattern which is a fairly simple design. Using tape is also much cheaper than purchasing concrete stencils. Taping is done after the first coat is completely dry, before the second coat is applied. After the second coat is dry, pull the tape off and there you have a decorative stenciled pattern.
