Concrete Repairs : Chips and Broken Corners

There are simple concrete repairs for small chips and broken corners. These problems are common on exterior concrete such as driveways, patios, sidewalks, etc. and there is an easy fix that anyone can perform.

First, clean the area to be fixed thoroughly with water and let it dry. Then mix a batch concrete repair mortar or resurfacer according to label instructions. The key is to use a material that contains a bonding agent. Look for the words acrylic or latex on the label. You can also use a liquid bonding agent sold separately. Fill in the chipped or broken area with the mortar and lightly smooth with a trowel. The mortar should be stiff enough that it stays in place. Let it stand several minutes.

You may need to use form boards if the area you're fixing is big enough.

When it begins to get hard, take a small brush, such as a paint brush, wet it and gently smooth out the surface and the edges.

After a day or so when it completely hardens, you can rub it with a stone to further smoothen it and whiten it so it blends in with the rest of the surface.
