concrete statue

by Nicki Higgins
(Statesville NC)

Q. My friend bought a concrete statue that she wants me to paint- will artist quality oil paint last or chip?

A. If the statue stays inside it will be just fine. If it will stay outside, then the paint will eventually wear away. The weather will wear down anything over time. If the finish is very smooth then you may consider acid etching it to roughen it. This will give the paint a better surface to "grab" onto thus making it last much longer.
