Q. We have a room that is 18x18. We are going to pull up the carpet and stain with acrylic. We are wondering about how much this will cost to do?

A. Depending on what products you use, the cost of staining interior floors yourself is about $1 per square foot on average. This is assuming that you use high quality stain and sealer such as an epoxy or urethane sealer. Of course the price goes up if you need to rent machines to prep the floor.
