Ever Wanted to Build Your Own Successful Website?

Do It Youself Concrete Overlay Project

We've put together instructions for a do it youself concrete overlay project. It's a relatively easy project and is just one of many ways to give concrete a complete and decorative makeover. The choices for how you want the concrete to look are unlimited and this is just one method to help get the ball rolling for you.

Doing an overlay is only for the serious do it yourselfer that requires some detailed planning and preparation to achieve successful results. When done properly, an overlay will last as long as the concrete underneath, even in the harshest climates. But you must use specially designed polymer modified toppings to get maximum performance. Polymer toppings have less shrinkage than cement and have a higher compressive strength than concrete itself. If you try overlaying with regular cement, it's just a matter of time before it fails.

Keep in mind that overlays should not be used to fix structural problems, especially on exterior surfaces. You can treat cracks with crack fillers, but you can't "fix" them. There's a good chance the crack will eventually come back through the overlay. But don't let that discourage you from attempting a do it yourself concrete overlay.
