Don't Expect Miracles, But Get It Cleaner Than it Was

For our garage, the usual oil leaks from yard tools, lawn mower, and of course the little oil drips here and there from the cars and the beating the concrete floor takes just from in and out traffic, plus being the place where any messy projects are done, we have to do a serious cleaning every summer. What works the best for us, and we don't try to tackle each type of stain with a different type of cleaner and method of cleaning...we're just not that disciplined I guess, but for us we just want it "clean" to last another year. So, after emptying everything out, I pour dishwasher detergent, many boxes of the cheapest granular brand in the grocery store, all over the concrete floor and scrub with an outdoor, hard bristle push broom. Then, I let my son do the same until he's worn out.

We let the granules sit on the concrete over night to soak up any oily substances that it will absorb. Then, the next morning we get the hose and wash it down.

It looks "great" - not brand new again - but, we are ready for another year of drips and spills!
