Epoxy Floor Paint and Cure and Seal

by Mark Elliott
(Foster, KY USA)

Q. I'm planing on pouring a concrete slab that will be part living space and the other a garage. I planing on using a cure and seal on it soon after it is poured. Later on I would like to put down epoxy floor paint in the garage. Will I need to remove the Cure and seal from this space before I can put the epoxy on. If so what is the best way to remove the cure and seal. The floor is a flat surface.

A. The concrete needs to be free of any coatings including cure and seal before applying epoxy paint. Removing sealer is a nasty job. My suggestion is to avoid that step by not using cure and seal. You can cure it by using curing blankets or some kind of sheet that you can cover the floor with keeping it moist. Or you can use a dissipating curing agent. Removing sealer is the most hated part of my job, so don't use it if you know you're going to put down epoxy paint.
