Faux Finish Concrete Staining: Misting

Misting is a faux finish concrete staining technique that creates a speckled or quartz appearance. This technique works best with acrylic and polymer stains.

  • Step 1: Surface preparation. See acrlyic stains for surface prep instructions.
  • Step 2: With a pump sprayer, apply the base coat and completely cover the surface. The base coat should be the lightest of the chosen colors. You may need two coats depending on the porosity of the concrete.
  • Step 3: Allow base coat to dry completely.
  • Step 4: Lightly spray or mist on the second color and allow to dry completely. Repeat for the third color if desired.
  • Step 5: After all the stain has completely dried, rinse the entire surface with water.
  • Step 6: Apply a coat of clear concrete sealer to enhance the appearance and protect the finish.

Important: Do a test run on a piece of cardboard for practice and to make sure you like it. You will have to adjust the tip of the sprayer.
