Faux Finish Staining Blending
Blending is a technique of faux finish staining that creates a marbled appearance with the use of two or three colors. The key is to apply the stain with a pump sprayer and spray wet on wet. This technique can be done with acrylic or acid stains.
- Step 1:Surface Preparation. See surface prep for acid stains or acrylic stains.
- Step 2:With a pump sprayer, spray on the first coat. This ccan be done by completely covering the surface or hit and miss application. Do only small areas at a time because stains can dry quickly, especially outside. You also need to be able to reach with the second color without walking in the first.
- Step 3:While the first color is still wet, spray the second color and blend in any pattern you choose. Spraying wet on wet allows the colors to flow together making a gradual transition from one color to another.
- Step 4:Repeat process for remaininig areas.
- Step 5:Allow stains to dry completely and apply concrete sealer.
Do a test run on a piece of cardboard for practice and to see if you like it.
Important:Surface must be neutralized before sealing if acid stains are used.
