Floor Staining question

by Meredith
(Salt Lake City, UT)

Q. After patching the divots created when I removed the carpet tack strips, how long do I need to wait for the concrete patch to cure before I stain the floor?

A. You usually only need to wait 24 to 48 hours before applying the stain, unless the patch is large and deep. In that case you need to wait about a week. For small divots like the ones made by tack strips, you'll be ok to stain the next day. Keep in mind that these patches will be "highlighted" with acid staining. Acrylic stains or a combination of both acid and acrylic will help mask any repairs done to the floor.
