Gasoline Soaked into concrete

by Karen Black
(Navarre, FL)

Q. I had a generator stored in the garage and the gas in it turned bad and leaked onto the garage concrete floor in about a 3 foot by 3 foot square. I have powerwashed, tried citric acit scrub and airing out to no avail. Is there anything that can remove the smell or a product that will seal it in?

A. The first thing you need to do is cover it with something that will draw it out of the concrete, such as dry cement, saw dust, or kitty litter. Let that sit for a few days. Then put detergent on it and let it soak in before washing it off. I haven't tried this, but I've heard from someone in the gasoline industry that Febreze will get rid of the smell.
