Look Before You Leap

I used to like to tout myself as the kind of guy who could do it all without any real instruction; unfortunately, it took a destroyed concrete floor to make me realize how wrong about the world I was. Try as I might, no matter how much attention was paid to detail, all I ended up with was mess of blisters and peels...and then I learned that the paint kit I was using (which had quite possibly been laying around for more than a century) included a cleaner that contained muriatic acid, which basically only ate away most of the concrete I was supposed to be applying the coating to! As I performed further research, I also learned that flooring companies realized this problem and switched to non-acidic cleaners decades ago. So, as I realized too late of course, I could've avoided all this time and hassle if I had simply reasearched before-hand and realized that my ancient paint kit would only cause me grief...

So, in short, it'd probably be best if you avoid all forms of acid-based cleaners when working with concrete...
