Oil Stain

by JF

There's a really good article about this on about.com that I found recently. Honestly, WD40 or mineral spirits work really well if it's a "new" stain, but they do not work too well if it's been there for a while. It's actually good to clean it ASAP, if it's possible.

TSP worked well too, but the odor can be overwhelming if it's an enclosed area. Plus, I used it on gear oil that I dumped over and didn't have time to clean it, and the TCP stained my wood work bench, so in fixing one problem I created another. But if you don't mind, or don't have a wooden bench or plywood nearby it worked better than mineral spirits in my opinion.
