Q. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY MANY COMPANIES THAT I COULD NOT USE
POWDER RELEASE ON OVERLAY WHEN STAMPING. I HAVE SEEN IT DONE AND HAVE TRYED IT AND IT LOOKS GREAT. WHY DO I
HEAR NOT TO USE IT? ONLY LIQUID ?
A. There is an additive in most powder releases that reacts with the polymers in the topping mix. It causes the surface to become brittle and easier to wear down or chip away. I've never used the two together so I don't know for sure how true this is. I just took their word for it. In your situation, you should use the liquid while you allow time to see what happens to the other jobs. I've heard that some companies are developing new powders that will work for polymer overlays, or maybe someone has one available now. I like the look of the powder release myself but stick with clear liquid release for overlays.
