Q. I sprayed black paint by mistake on our epoxy painted garage floor. Turpentine does not remove it - can i just put more epoxy paint over it?
A. Before painting over epoxy floor paint, you must first prep the surface. When epoxy paint hardens, another coating will not adhere to it for very long because the bond is weak. The existing coating needs to scuffed or sanded to give it some grip for good bonding.
There are other paint strippers that can be used to remove the black paint without hurting the epoxy. You can try paint thinnner, rubbing alcohol, acetone, and even gasoline. Just make sure any specialty stripping agent says nothing about epoxies and urethanes on the label. If for some reason it does hurt the epoxy, then you can always scuff it and paint over it.
