painting the bedroom concrete floor need help!

by Joyce Adams
(Orlando Fl)

Q. We purchased an Epoxy paint in a brown color for our bedroom floor. I don't like the color like it is and was wondering if I can rag roll or faux finish on top of it. it has a sealer built in and wasn"t sure if thsi was something I could do over top. Please help ...P.S. I don't like the look of the chips I want a different more trendy feel. :)

A. This is what I would do. Sand the floor with a fine grit sand paper. You don't have to sand away the epoxy that's already down, just get rid of the sheen and smooth the chips/flakes. This gives you a good profile for the next coat. Clean it thoroughly and then wipe the floor with mineral spirits. Instead of using epoxy, use a concrete floor paint (you can get a good paint at Sherwin Williams). You get much better color selection and you can get a second color for faux painting. Because latex floor paint is not as strong as epoxy, I recommend applying a clear water based epoxy as the final coat for a strong finish.
