Removing common stains from concrete

by Sidney
(Sydney, Australia)

For mold stains I use a paste of lemon juice and baking soda. Apply it to the stain and leave it for 30 mins. Then just scrub it with a used toothbrush or a nylon scrub brush and rinse it with clean water. For very tough stains, bleach based products that are made for bathroom tiles are great. For oil stains on concrete, what works best is WD40. Spray on and let it soak in for 15 minutes. Then rinse with a hose and repeat if necessary. For grease stains, it is best to remove it as early as possible, when you get the stain. Use a strong powder laundry detergent mixed with just enough water to form a paste, and to leave it on for a couple of hours. Make sure it doesn’t get dry. Then just scrub it with a nylon scrub brush and hose it off. You may have to repeat the process.
