Removing overspray from patio

by Robert
(Houston, TX)

Q. My girlfriend was spray painting a light fixture in the yard and didn't cover a large enough area. She got overspray on the concrete patio. Is there a way to remove the spray paint without removing the paint/stain from the patio?

A. If the patio is acid stained, then you can use a chemical paint remover without disturbing the stain. It may take off the sealer which can be fixed by just resealing. If the patio is stained with an acrylic stain, a chemical stripper may take off some of the stain as well, in which case you just have to restain that area. It's hard to give the best advice without knowing how the patio was colored. It may be colored with color hardener if it's stamped concrete. If that's the case, then a stripper won't hurt the patio at all.
