Sealer for stained outdoor concrete

by Kevin
(Fremont, CA)

Q. My backyard concrete has been stained w/ Behr concrete siliconized acrylic stain and I was wondering whether it is necessary to seal it w/ Behr concrete siliconized acrylic sealer. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

A. You should put a coat of sealer over stained concrete. Anything outside wears down over time and the sealer will be the wearcoat instead of the stain. Does it have to be Behr's sealer? No. Any acrylic concrete sealer will do. As long as it's a breathable coating it will be fine. Just don't use any epoxies or urethanes because they are nonbreathable coatings and should not be used on exterior concrete.
