What does my concrete slab weigh?

by Jim
(Tennessee)

Q. I have to get an existing slab that my central unit sits on moved. I need an estimate of what it weighs so I know what kind of equipment I need to handle pulling it away. The slab measures 4 1/2'x5' and is 16 inches high.

A. Concrete weighs about 50 lbs per sq ft at 4 inches thick. I your slab is 16 inches thick, then your slab is:

4.5 x 5 = 22.5
22.5 x 50 = 1125
1125 x 4 = 4500 lbs approx
