Why we use Epoxy Floor Coating

by Bill
(Minneapolis)

We coat concrete to help protect it from chemical and physical things that can ruin the floor. But we also coat it to protect products stored in direct contact with the concrete. But if you're painting your concrete floor you should definitely use an epoxy floor coating. The best place to go is your pro paint supply house. You'll get the best paint there. You should clean your concrete first and make sure it's dry. If you're not sure it's dry yet, place something solid on an area for about 12-24 hours. If you dont see a wet spot where the object was, then your concrete should be dry and ready to be painted. If you want to do any etching then be sure you do that before you paint. When you are ready to paint, prime the floor with whatever primer that is recommended by the epoxy company. Then you can paint the floor with whichever paint color you've chosen. After about an hour or so, look around for any rough spots that are absorbing alot of epoxy and touch those up with another medium coat. Don't even try to hurry the drying process because epoxy will dry fast enough. If you'd like you can also paint a clear coat of epoxy to prolong the color. Remember to make sure your concrete is dry before painting though. Any moisture can mess with the bonding and curing of the epoxy floor coating.
