Wire mesh vs fiber reinforcement

by Dick
(Indianapolis In.)

Q. I'm wondering what is better having a drive way replaced using the synthetic fiber concrete or concrete and wire?

Also what questions should I be asking a contractor?

A. This is question that really has no right answer, wire mesh or fiber. A combination of both is obviously the best method. In my experience, concrete with wire is much more difficult to tear out with wire mesh than with fiber. So what does that tell you. But wire mesh is only in the middle of concrete whereas fiber is distributed evenly throughout. I do believe fiber does alot to hold the surface together to prevent flaking, scaling, and popouts.

I always use fiber for every job. As a contractor I prefer to use fiber because its easier and cheaper but I generally use both if I think there may be any settlement issues.
